Mediation
Because of changes to Legal Aid for divorce and family issues made by the Legal Aid, Sentencing, and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012, the Family Division of the court now mandates divorcing spouses to consider utilising Family Mediation to resolve any disagreements regarding divorce or child care legislation.
Abbott and Harris Solicitors provides lawyer-assisted Family Mediation in conflicts between divorcing, separating, or dissolving civil partnership couples, including Family Mediation that included:
Child Arrangement Orders
Child and children custody
Child contact and access arrangements
Child law and separation
Child name change
Children court orders

Extended family/alternative family
Finances and property in divorce
Finances after divorce
Formal separation

Judicial separation

Parental Responsibility
Pensions in divorce and separation

It is possible for children who are old enough to understand what is going on to attend some Family Mediation and Child Mediation (involving child care matters) – as well as an extended family such as grandparents if they have a financial interest in the family home, are involved in child care, or are in dispute over contact with grandchildren.
Family Mediation may not be appropriate in some cases, such as when one partner refuses to attend sessions or when domestic abuse has happened in a relationship and is being investigated by the authorities.
However, in most circumstances, Family Mediation is a highly efficient means of settling problems in divorce, separation, or dissolution of civil partnerships — and it will also save on costly court proceedings and the emotional strain produced by family court hearings.
